Dispatching consolidates in central South Dakota

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The City of Pierre and the state Department of Public Safety have consolidated emergency and law enforcement dispatch services in central South Dakota into a single operation run by the city.
• The consolidation began Wednesday.
• Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill says the consolidation of two public-safety communications systems into one will increase efficiency and save money.
• The consolidation moves the city's dispatch services to the State Radio facilities located at the Mickelson Law Enforcement Center.
• The city is responsible for personnel and will share costs of the dispatch services with the state.

Small business loans available in disaster areas

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Low-interest Small Business Administration loans are available to South Dakotans hit by flooding or a tornado.
• SBA has issued a disaster declaration for homes and businesses damaged June 13-20.
• That makes low-interest loans available in the primary counties of Jerauld and Lincoln, as well as neighboring counties of Buffalo, Hand, Beadle, Sanborn, Aurora, Brule, Minnehaha, Turner, Clay and Union.
• People may visit SBA outreach centers starting Wednesday in Wessington Springs and Canton, and Monday in Elk Point.
• Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners for real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 for personal property. And businesses may borrow up to $2 million for real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.

Hot Springs man convicted of killing his mother

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Jurors in Rapid City have convicted a Hot Springs man of killing his mother and hiding her body three years ago.
• Prosecutors say 28-year-old Matthew Tornquist was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder and grand theft. The murder count carries a mandatory life sentence and grand theft has a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.
• The jury found that he killed 56-year-old Catherine Tornquist in October 2011 in Fall River County, stole money from her and hid her body, which has not been found
