No disrespect to the current group, but none of the 42 players coming to Hoover have been under quite the same spotlight. Auburn's Nick Marshall and Georgia tailback Todd Gurley might come the closest, and both will be on hand.
• QUARTERBACKS: Six quarterbacks will speak at media days. The group includes Marshall, Mississippi's Bo Wallace, Mississippi State's Dak Prescott and first-year starters Dylan Thompson (South Carolina), Maty Mauk (Missouri) and Hutson Mason (Georgia). Other jobs won't be settled until preseason camp with the most prominent spot up for grabs coming at Alabama, where Florida State transfer Jacob Coker enters the mix.
• PREDICTIONS: As usual, the media will vote on All-SEC teams and predicted finishes. The track record -- four correct picks in 22 tries -- would get most coaches fired. Nevertheless, the favorite in the Western Division figures to be either Auburn or Alabama with Georgia and South Carolina the presumed front-runners in the East.

SD senator lobbies DC for transportation dollars

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Sen. Mike Vehle has traveled to Washington D.C. to lobby for transportation dollars with a group from the National Conference of State Legislatures.
• The Mitchell Republican is hoping Congress will approve a six-year transportation plan, which would make it easier for states to budget. Vehle is the state Senate Transportation Committee chairman.
• The federal transportation fund is expected to go into the red later this summer.
• The delegation included state-level lawmakers from eight states, including Oregon and Minnesota. They met with Congressional delegates and White House officials.
• Vehle says the visits went well. He thinks the president's plan to fund transportation expenses with tax reform is probably a non-starter. And he hopes officials can come up with a back-up plan that will work for everyone.
