FEMA denies individual aid in wake of SD storms

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota residents impacted by recent flooding and a tornado will not be eligible for federal aid.
• The state Department of Public Safety says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied the state's request for individual assistance.
• FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate told the state in a letter that the damage to homes and businesses is not enough to warrant federal help.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the denial is disappointing. He says state officials are examining their options, including a possible appeal of FEMA's decision.

3 South Dakota restaurants honored for wine lists

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Three South Dakota restaurants are among more than 3,700 worldwide recognized by a magazine as eateries that offer the best wine selections.
• Botticellli Ristorante in Rapid City, Deadwood Social Club in Deadwood and Carnaval Brazilian Grill in Sioux Falls were honored in Wine Spectator's newly released 2014 Restaurant Awards.

Boyfriend charged in Sioux Falls stabbing death

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities charged a Sioux Falls man with murder and manslaughter Thursday after he allegedly stabbed girlfriend 14 times in their apartment.
• Michael Martinez, 28, was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
• Martinez allegedly stabbed 21-one-year-old Beverly Guerra with a kitchen knife during an argument. Prosecutors say Martinez stabbed Guerra in her chest, torso and back. She was found in their apartment around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, and pronounced dead by medical personnel, according to the Argus Leader.
