• The Census Bureau said there were only 10 states that had more men than women in 2013: Alaska at 52.4 percent, North Dakota at 51.1 percent, Wyoming at 51 percent, Hawaii at 50.5 percent, Nevada at 50.4 percent, Utah at 50.3 percent, Colorado, South Dakota, and Montana at 50.2 percent and Idaho at 50.1 percent.
• The states with the highest percentage of women were Delaware at 51.6 percent, Rhode Island at 51.6 percent, Massachusetts at 51.5 percent and Maryland at 51.5 percent. The District of Columbia had a higher percentage of women than all the states at 52.6 percent.

Daugaard, Michels tour natural disaster towns

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's top leaders are touring two towns hit by natural disasters.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard will visit Wessington Springs Thursday morning to see the recovery progress from a tornado that hit the town last week and hold a briefing with reporters.
• Lt. Gov. Matt Michels will tour flooded areas of Canton on Thursday morning, meet with local officials and brief the media. Flooding began early last week when the town received more than 8 inches of rain in one day.

Median age in Dakotas drops thanks to oil boom

• WASHINGTON (AP) -- North Dakota and South Dakota are among five states that saw the median age of their population drop thanks to the country's oil and gas boom.
• Data released Thursday by the Census Bureau shows the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming and Oklahoma are attracting young men looking for work in the oil fields. Alaska and Hawaii also saw their population's age slide.
• Meanwhile, the Census Bureau says the median age in the U.S. went up a little bit last year from 37.5 years to 37.6 years.
• The age changes for the mainland states were mostly minuscule. In North Dakota the median age went from 35.881 to 35.270, a difference of .611. And in South Dakota the change was from 36.841 to 36.818, a difference of .023.
