Sioux Falls casino robbed at gunpoint

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls police are investigating a casino robbery in the city.
• Authorities say a male armed with a handgun entered the Connexions Casino about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money. He fled on foot.
• Police did not disclose how much money the robber took. No injuries were reported.

19 SD teens training as youth troopers in Pierre

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Nineteen South Dakota teenagers will train with the Highway Patrol in Pierre for the third annual Youth Trooper Academy this week.
• The American Legion is a co-sponsor of the event and helped select the soon-to-be high school seniors.
• Maj. Rick Miller is the Highway Patrol assistant superintendent.
• He says Highway Patrol staff look forward to the academy.
• The veteran troopers mentor and monitor the young participants. The students will experience some of the same training as Highway Patrol recruits.
• Other law enforcement officers will contribute to the classroom and field instruction. The teens will get training in firearms safety, service dog handling and criminal law among other topics.
• The academy ends with a graduation ceremony on Friday.

USDA: Widespread rain, normal temps in SD

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says widespread rain showers and near normal temperatures last week continued to dominate the weather pattern across most areas of South Dakota.
• The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service says in the latest crop report that rain left 3.2 days suitable for fieldwork for cutting and baling alfalfa hay, spraying herbicides and moving cattle to summer pastures.
• Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 4 percent short, 79 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus.
• The corn crop is rated 1 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 71
