meetings every other month are not only educational and helpful, but there is a warm camaraderie with other Foster Grandparents.
• I'd like to share one of my most fun experiences.  I'll be out in the community doing something and one of my kids from the classroom runs up to me excitedly and says, "Hi Grandma Burgher" and gives me a hug.  It never ceases to warm my heart!
• Foster Grandparents must be 55 or over, living on a fixed income, and have a heart for children.  They receive an hourly stipend, transportation assistance, free daily meal, paid time off and holidays and other benefits.  These benefits are not taxable and don't affect your eligibility for any governmental assistance.  Volunteers are placed at schools, Head Start centers, daycare centers and other youth facilities where they act as mentors, tutors and role models for children.  Volunteers of America, Dakotas Foster Grandparent Program is in need of Foster Grandparents in this area.  Please call Cindy & Juli toll free at 1-888-761-7244 to learn more about the program.
