SD GOP picks nominees to appear on November ballot

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Delegates to the South Dakota Republican Party convention have chosen the party's nominees for constitutional officers who will appear on the November ballot.
• The delegates selected the nominees during the convention in Rapid City this weekend.
• The party endorsed the following nominees:
• -- Matt Michels for lieutenant governor
• -- Marty Jackley for attorney general
• -- Steve Barnett for auditor
• -- Rich Sattgast for treasurer
• -- Shantel Krebs for secretary of state
• -- Gary Hanson for commissioner of public utilities
• Ryan Brunner for commissioner of schools and public lands

Volunteer center to open for tornado recovery help

• WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) -- A volunteer center to coordinate tornado recovery efforts in Wessington Springs will open Monday.
• Public safety officials say the center will open at 8 a.m. at the Wessington Springs Elementary School.
• Mayor Melissa Mebius says volunteers for general debris cleanup and cash donations are needed.
• Authorities are asking those interested in volunteering to register at the center. They say the most convenient access to the school is into town on 383rd Avenue from Highway 34 and then west on 2nd Street Northeast.
• Volunteers are being asked to bring their own gloves, rakes, sun screen, pants and hard-sole shoes.
• Cash donations designated to the Wessington Springs Relief Fund may be dropped off at American Bank & Trust locations in Wessington Springs, Alpena, Huron, Wolsey, Miller, Huron-Walmart, Pierre, Mellette and De Smet.
