Mount Marty grads sue over failed accreditation

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- Six graduates of Mount Marty College are suing the Yankton school after learning its nurse practitioner's program failed to earn accreditation.
• The Yankton Press and Dakotan says the liberal arts college learned May 19 the program will be denied accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. That was five months after the first class in the program graduated.
• Those 18 students and another graduate from May now cannot be licensed as nurse practitioners. The Argus Leader reports they can complete coursework at a different school to earn an accredited degree.
• Six of the 19 graduates sued Friday in Minnehaha County. The college announced the accreditation issue Thursday.
• The lawsuit argues the school didn't tell students it didn't obtain preapproval from an accrediting agency and implied the program was accredited.

Republicans choosing secretary of state candidate

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The big issue for South Dakota Republicans Saturday at their party convention in Rapid City is choosing someone to run for secretary of state.
• Most candidates already have been chosen, but Pat Miller and Shantel Krebs are competing for the nomination.
• Miller is the deputy secretary of state from Pierre and is married to former Gov. Walter Dale Miller, who was governor from 1993 until 1995.
• Krebs is a state senator from Renner, north of Sioux Falls, and is married to Mitch Krebs, former Gov. Mike Rounds' Senate campaign spokesman.
• Secretary of State Jason Gant isn't seeking re-election and plans to return to the private sector at the end of the year.

Event brings farm memorabilia to SD fairgrounds

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota State Fairgrounds will display agricultural memorabilia at the National Red Power Round Up this week.
• The event runs from June 26-28 at the fairgrounds in Huron.
