Teen texting while driving highest in the Dakotas

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A new report released this week shows South Dakota has the highest rate of high school-aged teens who admit to texting and driving.
• The report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 61 percent of teen drivers in South Dakota text and drive or send emails while driving. KDLT-TV in Sioux Falls reports that the national average is about 41 percent.
• North Dakota was the second highest state with about 59 percent of teens admitting to texting while driving.
• Sioux Falls has had a ban on texting while driving since 2012. The Argus Leader reports that police have issued 34 citations.
• Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemons says teen drivers aren't the only culprits.
• The CDC surveyed 13,000 teens around the nation.

Co-ops help to build new State Fair exhibit hall

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- Electric cooperatives in South Dakota are helping to build a new exhibit hall on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
• The South Dakota State Fair Foundation says that South Dakota Rural Electric Cooperatives, Basin Electric, National Rural Utility Cooperative Finance Corporation and CoBank have given $116,500 to a capital campaign for the new building.
• The Foundation has raised $2.52 million of its $4 million goal.
• State Fair director Jerome Hertel says 4-H members will have better experiences at the State Fair because of the gift.
