McCrory Gardens June 19 Workshop Focuses on Growing and Propagating Perennials

• BROOKINGS, S.D. - Growing and Propagating Perennials is the focus of the June 19 workshop held at McCrory Gardens as part of the Third Thursday Series. The workshop will be led by David Graper, Director of McCrory Gardens. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
• "There are many perennial flowers that are easy to grow in this area and they reward the gardener with flowers of all sorts along with interesting foliage and textures that can be enjoyed spring to fall," said Graper. "They come in all different shapes and sizes so that there always perennials to choose for just about any location. I love gardening with perennials because they generally come back year after year and provide the foundation of the garden.  You can then add annuals and other plants to add more color, size and texture to the garden for the look you want.
• The program will focus on the basics of growing and caring for some perennials in your garden.  Graper will also lead a discussion on propagation and will even divide some plants for individuals to take home and try in their own gardens.
• "I call it multiplication by division" said Graper. "It's the easiest way to propagate your perennials and allow you to share them with your friends."
• To attend, meet at the Education and Visitor Center at McCrory Gardens, (631 22nd Ave. in Brookings, SD). Bring along a garden trowel and a box or other container if you would like a few divisions to take home.
• Registration is requested for all who plan to attend. To register for the event, visit the website, www.mccrorygardens.com, call McCrory Gardens at 605-688-6707 or by e-mail: mccrorygardens@gmail.com. Look for us on Facebook too.
