Gusty southeasterly winds will develop today ahead of a low pressure system approaching the region from the west. Locations west of the James River valley will experience the strongest sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph. The low pressure system will slowly move across the region through the weekend. The first round of thunderstorms associated with this low pressure system will occur tonight. Some thunderstorms could be strong to severe with hail and damaging winds possible. The next round of thunderstorms will come Saturday afternoon especially over the eastern Dakotas and Western Minnesota. Some of these thunderstorms could become strong to severe with hail and damaging winds possible.
