SD activities group adopts changes to constitution

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Members of the South Dakota High School Activities Association voted to pass three of five new amendments to the organization's constitution.
• The Association governs sports and fine arts activities in member schools across the state.
• A new policy sets consequences for students and coaches ejected from a contest. And after a third ejection, the offender will miss the remainder of the season.
• The other two polices will affect the makeup of the association's Board of Directors. One change states that no school can have more than one representative on the board. The second states that if a board member loses his or her position, such as in a school, then he or she is no longer eligible to serve on the board.
• The new policies take effect July 1.

• Visitors to Mount Rushmore, Badlands up in April
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association says that figures for April show an increase in visitors to Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Badlands National Park.
• Mount Rushmore National Memorial saw an increase of 16.9 percent from April 2013, and visitation was up 20.7 percent in Badlands National Park.
• The organization says that Black Hills area hotels and motels also fared well in April. Occupancy rates were up 5.9 percent and revenue rose 12.7 percent from last April.
• The area did experience a 5.5 percent drop in taxable sales from the same month last year.
