4 SD residents sentenced in immigration case

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Four western South Dakota residents have been sentenced for immigration-related crimes stemming from fraudulent contracts with the U.S. Forest Service.
• The individuals from Rapid City were sentenced for their roles in a five-year conspiracy to harbor people living in the country illegally so that the immigrants could perform contract work for the federal agency.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says the four people committed their crimes between January 2008 and May 2013.
• Twenty-eight-year-old Christina Pourier, 25-year-old Rogelio Escalante Jr., and 25-year-old Raul Munoz, all of Rapid City, were sentenced for continuing unlawful employment of aliens.
• The 49-year-old Sergio Munoz-Escalante, of Hermosa, was sentenced for false statement.
• Only Munoz-Escalante will serve prison time.
• Six other people have been sentenced in connection with this case.

Sioux Falls mayor to travel to Potsdam, Germany

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The mayor of South Dakota's largest city will travel to Potsdam, Germany next week to help christen a new streetcar named "Sioux Falls."
• Mayor Mike Huether will also give a speech in German while helping Potsdam unveil the new streetcar. Sioux Falls and Potsdam have been sister cities since 1990.
• The two cities have exchanged students, nurses and business groups in the past as part of their 24-year partnership.
• Huether will be paying for this trip privately.

South Dakota candidate charged in election case

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota authorities on Wednesday arrested defeated U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth and charged her with multiple counts of perjury and filing false election documents, saying she fraudulently attested to gathering voter signatures when she was really on a Christian mission trip to the Philippines.
