Authorities search for missing state prison inmate

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities are searching for a state prison inmate who went missing in Rapid City.
• State corrections officials say 27-year-old Joseph Janis walked away from the Rapid City Minimum Unit on Monday night.
• Janis is a Native American male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds.
• Janis is currently serving a 5-year sentence with two years suspended for possession of a controlled substance out of Pennington County.

South Dakota vote features governor, US Senate

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The last two governors of South Dakota hope to win primary elections Tuesday that could propel them to the role of strong favorites to win gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races in November and tighten the Republican Party's grip on the state's top political offices.
• Former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds is favored to exceed 35 percent of the vote and avoid a runoff with any of four other candidates for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination to replace retiring Democrat Tim Johnson. Republicans nationally see the South Dakota race as one of their strongest chances to pick up a Democratic seat in 2014, and if a Republican wins in November it would be the first time in 28 years both South Dakota U.S. Senate seats are held by the GOP.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard is seeking a second four-year term and is facing a little known former state representative in the Republican primary. Two Democrats are vying for the right to challenge Daugaard, but South Dakota has not elected a Democrat as governor in 40 years.
• In addition to the top two races, South Dakota voters are casting ballots Tuesday
