A Sunburn-Free Summer

• It's summertime in South Dakota, which means many of us will be paying a visit to Mount Rushmore, getting out on the Missouri River or Pactola Reservoir, or heading into the field.  Wherever you're going this summer, sunscreen should probably be in your bag.
• When many of us were growing up, sunscreen was rarely - if ever - applied.  Still today, having not grown up with sunscreen, I have a hard time remembering to put it on myself, although I try to never let my kids go out without it.  But over the last few decades, researchers have found that sunscreen is one of the most important tools we have in the fight against skin cancer.
• Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States.  In fact, there are more new cases of skin cancer each year than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers - combined.  One in five Americans will develop skin cancer over the course of their lifetime and while treatments are getting better, thousands lose the battle with skin cancer each year.
