Midwest economic index hits another 3-year high

• OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- A monthly economic index for nine Midwestern and Plains states has inched up to hit another three-year high, suggesting more economic growth over the next three to six months.
• A report issued Monday says the overall Mid-America Business Conditions Index rose to 60.5 in May from 60.4 in April, which also was a three-year high.
• Looking six months ahead, the business confidence portion of the overall index dropped to 62.5 from 64.2 in April.
• The survey results from supply managers are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth, while a score below that suggests decline.
• The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

Candidates make final push ahead of primary

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A former governor, two state lawmakers and two political newcomers are making their final pitches to South Dakota voters as they vie for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Tim Johnson.
• Former Gov. Mike Rounds, state Sen. Larry Rhoden, state Rep. Stace Nelson, attorney and Army Reserves Maj. Jason Ravnsborg (ROUNDS'-burg) and physician Annette Bosworth will face off in Tuesday's Republican primary.
• A winner with at least 35 percent of the vote earns the nomination. Otherwise, a runoff between the winner and second-place finisher will be scheduled.
• In the race for the governor, Gov. Dennis Daugaard faces former state Rep. Lora Hubbel in the Republican primary. Former state wildfire agency head Joe Lowe and state Rep. Susan Wismer are seeking the Democratic nomination.

November ballot measure explanations posted

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakotans won't vote on any ballot questions in Tuesday's primary but will decide three measures in the November general election.
• Attorney General Marty Jackley has released the explanations of those issues
