Absentee ballots in SD primary exceed 10,000

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says that 10,688 absentee ballots have been cast for the South Dakota June 3 primary election.
• More than 11,800 ballots have been sent out to military personnel, students and residents who will be away from the state on election day.
• Absentee voting is also available in person at county courthouses for people who want to vote early. Absentee voting ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 2.
• Gant predicts a slightly above average turnout at the polls, around 50 percent, in the primary. A Republican race for a U.S. Senate seat nomination and a competitive race for the Democratic nominee for governor has drawn voters' attention.
• There are 510,851 registered voters in the state. Registration for the primary is closed.

SD governor proclaims June as dairy month

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard is recognizing June as dairy month in South Dakota.
• Daugaard signed a proclamation to recognize the important role of dairy farming and the dairy industry in South Dakota's economy, communities and health.
• The state is home to 263 dairy farms that produce about 235 million gallons of milk each year. The state also has nine plants that process one or more dairy products.
• The dairy industry provides about $1.3 billion of economic impact to the state.
• South Dakota Dairy Producers Association president Marv Post says farmers in the state provide a wholesome, nutritious source of locally produced foods.
• Dairy farm families will be hosting free, open houses this summer.

Deadline closing on South Dakota deer comments

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Hunters have a few more days to weigh in on a proposal to drastically cut the number of licenses and tags available for many of South Dakota's deer hunting seasons.
• The Game, Fish and Parks Commission says a decrease in deer population
