• Upward Bound helps first-generation and low-income students prepare for, enroll in and graduate from college.
• Langford native Kelsey Long went through the program and is now a counselor. She says if she didn't participate in the program she might not have gone to college.
• Long graduated in May with a degree in business management and is pursuing a graduate degree.

People with limited mobility can ride Mickelson

• DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) -- People with physical limitations can take a ride on the Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills.
• A trolley plans to leave the Deadwood Trailhead at 1 p.m. MDT Tuesday and tour the trail from Englewood to Rochford, which will take about four hours.
• Reservations are required by calling 605-578-1401.
• The Game, Fish and Parks Department says each person must have a handicapped parking permit. One assistant is allowed to accompany the person, if needed.

SD marks June as 'Great Outdoors Month'

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has declared June "Great Outdoors Month" along with other states across the country.
• Daugaard says South Dakota offers many opportunities for outdoor fun.
• State parks throughout June will offer bird walks, outdoor cooking demonstrations, fishing derbies and other activities.
• The first week in June is National Fishing and Boating Week. Special events include National Trails Day on June 7, National Get Outdoors Day on June 14 and the Great American Backyard Campout on June 28.
• Lake Herman State Park near Madison will host a pioneer day June 14 with family activities and historical demonstrations.

Dump truck driver dies after vehicle tips in SD

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Police in Rapid City have released the identity of the driver of a dump truck who died after the truck tipped to one side.
• Authorities say the incident occurred Thursday when 74-year-old Alvin Howe raised the dump trailer that was filled with gravel. Police say the load was too heavy and caused the truck to roll and fall onto a flat-bed trailer.
