get started.  This is the 10th annual Florida Volunteer Month sponsored by the Commission.  Breck was selected as the winner on April 9th.
• Breck volunteers primarily at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, FL, where she plays Stephen Foster melodies on the violin and encourages visitors to sing along to these old, familiar songs.  She also performs at other Florida State Park events such as Civil War and Seminole War re-enactments and Living History festivals celebrating early Florida settlers.
• Breck's commendation noted that she appears at all these events in period attire, even in freezing cold and wet weather, and that she also walks the park every morning to pick up trash and is always willing to help anywhere she is needed.
• Breck is quoted as saying she volunteers because it gives her the opportunity to do what she really loves - performing for others, introducing them to old-time music, and bringing joy.
• Breck serves as a South Dakota State Parks volunteer in the summertime, performing regularly at the Fort Sisseton Historical Festival in early June.  She also plays at the Granary's Living History Festival in September, where she gives children an opportunity to try playing a child-size violin.
