WWII veteran in SD gets medals 70 years later

• SCOTLAND, S.D. (AP) -- A World War II veteran in the South Dakota town of Scotland has been recognized for valor in combat, nearly 70 years after his service.
• Ninety-two-year-old Delmar Strunk on Wednesday was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star. Several military and political dignitaries were on hand for the ceremony at Scotland City Hall.
• Strunk served in the war from October 1943 to April 1945. His service included a four-month mission behind enemy lines in the Burmese jungle to attack Japanese bases and supply routes.
• After the war his personnel records were lost, and he never received the medals due him. A military historian and author later discovered Strunk's involvement in the war and enlisted U.S. Sen. John Thune for help in getting Strunk his medals.

Male with tire iron robs yogurt shop tip jar

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Rapid City police are investigating the robbery of a yogurt shop by someone wielding a tire iron.
• Authorities say a male entered the Cherry Berry shop about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday and demanded money. When an employee was slow to get it from the till, the robber swiped cash from a tip jar on the counter and fled.
• No one was hurt. Police are reviewing surveillance video as they try to identify a suspect.

Sheriff: Texas polygamists didn't come to SD

• PRINGLE, S.D. (AP) -- Custer County authorities say there's no indication followers of an imprisoned polygamist came to South Dakota after their Texas ranch was seized last month, but the group that lives in the state is behind on property taxes.
• Warren Jeffs is serving life in prison after being convicted in 2011 of sexually assaulting two girls he took as child brides. The Texas ranch was owned by his Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
• A sect affiliated with Jeffs owns land near Pringle.
• Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler says he expected an influx, but there's not a
