donors listing out-of-state addresses. He also collected $19,800 in non-itemized contributions of less than $200 each and $54,200 in donations from political committees, which included $12,000 from the insurance industry and $7,500 from the energy industry.
• Rounds spent about $557,000 during the period, leaving $636,000 in his campaign account -- more than double that of Sioux Falls business owner Rick Weiland, the lone Democrat in the race.
• Rounds will face four other Republicans -- state Sen. Larry Rhoden, state Rep. Stace Nelson, attorney and Army Reserves Maj. Jason Ravnsborg, and physician Annette Bosworth -- in seeking their party's nomination.
• The winner of the June 3 primary will face Weiland and two independents for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Tim Johnson.
• The latest fundraising reports for Rounds' GOP challengers had not been posted to the FEC website by Tuesday afternoon, though he has been far ahead in building his coffers. Requests for the reports to the campaigns by The Associated Press did not yield responses Tuesday afternoon.
• Bosworth has kept pace with Rounds' fundraising, but she spent the majority of what she raised on direct mail marketing during the past two quarters and her campaign fell deeper in debt.
• The reports were due to the federal agency last week, though there's no deadline on when they become available online.
• Weiland, a restaurant owner who once worked for former U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle, raised about $93,000 during the period, which is consistent with his $185,000-per-quarter pace over the past year.
• Of Weiland's $53,000 in itemized contributions, about 63 percent came from contributors listing out-of-state addresses. He also collected $38,900 in non-itemized contributions but just $755 from political committees.
• Weiland spent $268,000 during the period, and he has about $310,000 on hand.
• Two independent candidates also will be on the Nov. 4 ballot: former U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler and former state lawmaker Gordon Howie.
• Pressler raised about $2,300 during the period and spent about $9,400. His campaign has $29,700 on hand. The FEC website didn't have pre-primary filings for Howie or Walker.
