Shooting in Rapid City sends man to hospital

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Rapid City police are investigating a shooting that sent a 20-year-old man to the hospital.
• The man was found outside a residence late Monday, shot once in the chest. Officers who responded to the scene arrested two people for giving false names and for having outstanding warrants, but there are no suspects in the shooting.
• Police also are trying to determine a motive.
• The victim's condition was not released.

SD warns residents about unclaimed property scams

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Treasurer Rich Sattgast is warning residents about unclaimed property scams.
• Sattgast says people who have been contacted by companies claiming they can assist in returning unclaimed property should contact the treasurer's office to verify it's a legitimate business.
• He says the companies known as asset locators or finders provide this service for a fee, but some are scams.
• Sattgast says most legitimate locators charge between 15 and 25 percent of the recovered value with contracts that last for several years.
• People can check if they are owed money from the state using the Treasurer's Office website.

Dry, warm conditions aid South Dakota planting

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Dry conditions and above normal temperatures across most areas of South Dakota allowed the spring planting to advance.
• The U.S. Department of Agriculture says corn planting is 90 percent complete, ahead of the five-year average of 86 percent. Forty-eight percent of the crop was emerged, equal to average.
• Soybeans were 64 percent planted, ahead of the 49 percent average. The crop is 20 percent emerged, ahead of the 15 percent average.
• The winter wheat condition is rated 36 percent fair, 56 percent good and 2 percent excellent.
