Groton holds D.A.R.E. Graduation

Three students from each classroom placed in the DARE report or essay contest. • Growing up can be hard sometimes, but Groton Fifth grade students learned some tools to help them make some good decisions and to take responsibility for their actions. These lessons came through the DARE Program and help kids avoid drug use and other situations that might be risky for them, such as bullying.
• The program ended with a graduation ceremony on Tuesday for the students. During the ceremony, South Dakota Highway Patrol Officer Levi Jensen and his drug dog Bobby addressing the audience.
• "Using drugs is never a good idea," Officer Jensen told students. "Nothing good ever comes from using drugs or alcohol."
• Jensen has been working with Bobby for the last two years. Bobby is a specially trained Belgian Malinois that was bred and trained in Holland. When Bobby was matched up with Officer Jensen, the two spent two weeks in training, playing fetch.
