Honored SDSU ag professor to retire after 27 years

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Award-winning South Dakota State University professor Steve Pohl will retire this week.
• Pohl has served 27 years in SDSU's College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences and the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department.
• His research in livestock, ventilation and the environment has gone to help set industry standards. He is behind a wide-reaching workshop called "Managing Your Unseen Employee: The Ventilation System."
• He has co-authored more than 100 publications.
• Pohl was inducted into the Rural Builders Hall of Fame. He has also received the National Hog Farmer Master Award and the South Dakota Honorary Master Pork Producer and Lifetime Achievement Award.
• SDSU will host a reception for Pohl on May 30.

GFP Commission proposes archery equipment changes

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has proposed several changes to archery equipment regulations.
• Among the suggestions: remove the barbed point broad head restriction; remove terms "bolts or darts" from the archery rules; allow the use of cameras, video cameras and cellphones; change the size of compound bows; and allow hunters to use mechanical broad heads for elk hunting.
• The entire proposal is available on the GFP website. The commission will finalize the plan June 5-6 in Yankton. Written comments can be sent to wildinfo@state.sd.us.

Lawmaker in hospital after being bucked off horse

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota state representative was recovering from surgery Saturday after he was bucked off a horse while roping calves with a team of other ranchers.
• Rep. Dean Wink, a Howes Republican, is a rancher by trade and was working with about 30 other cowboys to help out on his neighbor's ranch Thursday when the incident happened. Rep. Gary Cammack, a fellow District 29 legislator, told the As
