• Mara Fogarty, a member of the Pride Collective and Community Center Board in Fargo, North Dakota, which provides resources for LGBT residents, said there's a lot of interest -- and fear -- in challenging the ban. She noted that under North Dakota's non-discrimination policy, sexual orientation and gender identity are not protected classes for matters such as housing and employment, "so a lot of people are afraid to stand up and make that happen."
• "I know that people really, really are hopeful," she added. "It's a lot of hope, but not a lot of faith."


SD's interstate info centers to open this weekend

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's 13 information centers along Interstates 29 and 90 will open this weekend.
• The South Dakota Department of Tourism says visitors can find literature and posters about businesses, attractions, accommodations and events throughout the state. Travel advisers are also available on site.
• The majority of the centers will open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are located near Chamberlain, New Effington, Salem, Spearfish, Tilford, Valley Springs, Vermillion, Vivian, Wasta and Wilmot.
• The facilities in Chamberlain, Vermillion and Valley Springs will remain open through October to assist hunters and travelers during the fall season. The other centers will begin to close in mid-September.
• The department says more than 675,000 people stop by the centers each year.

South Dakota proposes steep deer license, tag cuts

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A state hunting regulatory commission has proposed steep cuts to the number of licenses and tags available for many of South Dakota's deer hunting seasons to counter a shrinking herd caused by harsh winters, disease and habitat loss.
• The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission detailed the proposed changes Thursday. They would affect the East and West Rivers deer hunting seasons, as well as the one in the Black Hills, where no antlerless licenses would be issued for 2014.
