Legendary basketball coach Meyer in hospice care

• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- The family of former Northern State University basketball coach Don Meyer says he's in hospice care in Aberdeen.
• The family says in a statement that Meyer's health has been declining over the past several months, and after a three-day stay at a hospital with a feeding tube he is now at home in hospice care.
• Meyer retired from coaching in 2010 with a then-NCAA record 923 victories in 38 seasons with Northern State, Lipscomb University in Tennessee and Hamline University in Minnesota. The native of Wayne, Nebraska, is 69 years old.
• Meyer in 2008 was critically injured in a car accident that later resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Doctors discovered during his treatment following the crash that he had an inoperable form of cancer.

Syphilis, HIV, chlamydia rates up in South Dakota

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Figures through April 2014 indicate that rates of some sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise in South Dakota.
• State Epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger says syphilis rates haven't been this high since the 1970s. He adds that HIV rates are reaching levels not seen since the 1980s.
• There are 43 cases of syphilis in the state so far this year. Kightlinger says most of the past infections came from out of state, but now it's "homegrown syphilis."
• Medical professionals will meet Wednesday to discuss the rise of syphilis in the state.
• South Dakota typically has high rates of chlamydia. Rates are up this year. About 168 of every 100,000 South Dakotans have chlamydia.

Yankton hosting state Democratic Party convention

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- Yankton will host South Dakota Democrats next month at their state party convention.
• It runs Thursday, June 26, through Saturday, June 28, at the Best Western Kelly Inn Hotel and the NFAA Easton Archery complex.
• Democratic National Committee vice chairman and former Minneapolis mayor
