Police: White powder substance sent to Farm Bureau

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- Huron police say authorities are investigating a white powder substance sent to the South Dakota Farm Bureau office in Huron.
• The Farm Bureau office was closed briefly Friday morning while authorities investigated. Police say the substance arrived in a letter earlier in the week.
• Fire Department personnel used hazardous material protocol to safely contain the substance. The materials were packaged and are headed to the South Dakota Department of Health Laboratory in Pierre for identification.
• Police say the substance is believed to be non-hazardous and there is no threat to the public.
• The origin of the letter and contents remain under investigation.

South Dakota family sentenced in wire fraud case

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A Rosebud couple and their son who pleaded guilty to charges in a federal wire fraud case have been ordered to pay restitution totaling nearly half a million dollars.
• Fifty-five-year-olds Shannon Running and Norman Running and 35-year-old Norman Running Jr. were accused of fleecing people in California through a scheme involving a bogus inheritance. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says the parents pleaded guilty to conspiracy and the son to larceny.
• Shannon Running was sentenced to four years and three months in custody, and about $406,000 in restitution. Both the elder and younger Norman Runnings were sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a total of about $46,000.

Woman sentenced for embezzling from credit union

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A woman from Howes has been sentenced to a month in federal custody for embezzling from a credit union.
