New baseball league could be in Groton's future

• The 12, 10 and 8 and under baseball teams may soon be part of a new league. Sisseton, Groton, Wilmot, Milbank, Webster, Britton and possibly two other towns will form a new league. Some of the games will be played in Webster as a middle point for the furtherest teams. The games will also be played on a timed basis instead of number of innings. Also under consideration is paying the base umpires $15 per game and the umpire behind the plate $20 per game. There are a number of details that need to be worked out
• The Groton City Council has a new look with two new members taking their seats on the 127th council. Clare Brotherton did not seek re-election. She has served on the council for eight years, taking over the position vacated by her late husband, Bill Brotherton, who served on the council for 12.5 years. David Blackmun, Jr., took her spot on the council. Gary Heitmann has been on the council for 14 years. Taking his spot is Burt Glover. Mayor Scott Hanlon said, "We would like to thank Clare and Gary for all the time they have dedicated to the city of Groton. Thank you very much."
• David McGannon will be the board president and Michelle Muilenberg will be the vice president. Anita Lowary as appointed as finance officer and Drew Johnson was
