• Jan Seibel teaches health in seventh, eighth and ninth grade. She expressed concerns about students who go for band practice and it makes it difficult for homework assignments. May 13 is the junior high health fair. Seibel talked about the Walk South Dakota program for the teachers. Janel Lone walked 425 miles as the high individual walker. The winning group, the Rusty Roamer," walked 1,242 miles. They are Connie Stauch, Bill Duncan, Jana Duncan and Jan Hoffman.
• Janene Harry talked about art. There is a pottery element. Hannah Webb's art work at the Granary was recognized during the art festival. She also expressed concern about band students. "I don't take students away from band and they shouldn't take them away from me," she said.
• Kippley talked about the foreign language program. She teaches the Spanish classes. The state no longer requires a foreign language class for graduation. Each year, a Groton student has won a state-wide competition. Kippley will not be teaching in Groton next year and she it will be a bigger challenge for the students to learn through the internet instead of having a teacher in the building.
• South Dakota Education Secretary Melody Schopp will be visiting the Groton Area School on May 6. She will be in the area on that day and has picked Groton as one of the schools she wants to visit. She is expected to be in Groton for an hour.
• Chelsea Hanson will be the new head girls volleyball coach for the 2014-15
