Governor's Ag Summit set for late June in Deadwood

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The state Agriculture Department has scheduled the fifth annual South Dakota Governor's Agricultural Summit for June 26-27 at the Lodge in Deadwood.
• Agriculture Secretary Lucas Lentsch says the event is an opportunity for farmers, ranchers, ag industry leaders, legislators and congressional delegates to gather and discuss the future of the state's top industry. It employs more than 122,000 people and generates nearly $21 billion in economic activity annually.
• Lentsch, Gov. Dennis Daugaard and U.S. Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Michael Scuse are scheduled speakers.
• The event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required. Registration will be accepted through Monday, June 9, at www.sdagsummit.com .

Proposed Wal-Mart store faces legal challenges

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A proposed new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Sioux Falls is facing a second legal challenge.
• Sioux Falls voters on April 8 approved an ordinance clearing the way for the store. But some homeowners in the area want a judge to bar the city from issuing a building permit until after their allegations of misleading ballot wording are addressed in court.
• Meanwhile, the state Supreme Court on Tuesday was hearing arguments in a case brought by the Save Our Neighborhood group last year. Members maintain that the city improperly annexed the land set aside for the store.
• Wal-Mart has said it has made several changes to make the planned store a better fit for the neighborhood, and that the store has supporters in the community.
