Groton MathCounts students take second at NSU

• Thirty-three students in grades eight through twelve from the Groton Area School District participated in the 61st Annual NSU Mathematics Contest held Wednesday, April 16, 2014, on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  They were among 530 contestants representing 31 schools in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, who participated in the event and tested in four divisions:  Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and Senior Math.  Out of the 115 students taking the Elementary Algebra test, Lexie Harder, Madilyn Wright, Alexandra Stange, and Nathan Fjelstad received certificates of honorable mention.  Of the 115 students taking the Senior Math test, Luke Smith and Jacob Milbrandt received certificates of honorable mention.
• As a school, Groton received second place in the Class AA/A division.  To determine school rank, the highest score in each of the four divisions was taken to compute each school's result.
