Man in custody after 3-hour standoff in Rapid City

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Charges are pending against a 37-year-old Rapid City man arrested after a standoff with police that lasted more than three hours.
• Authorities say the Thursday afternoon standoff at a mobile home began when neighbors alerted police to a suspected burglary. When officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself in the home.
• Officers eventually entered the home and arrested the man on outstanding warrants. Additional charges are expected.

Rep. Noem joining delegation to Asia-Pacific

• WASHINGTON (AP) -- South Dakota Republican Rep. Kristi Noem is headed to Asia with several other members of Congress.
• She's one of eight Republicans and one Democrat in a group led by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia.
• The 10-day trip starts Friday.
• The representatives plan to meet with leaders in Japan, South Korea and China. Issues up for discussion include economic growth and trade, regional security challenges and strengthening alliances in the region.
• Noem says the Asia-Pacific region includes vital markets for agriculture products from South Dakota and across the U.S.

Horse virus cases showing up in Upper Midwest

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- State officials in the Upper Midwest are cautioning horse owners about a virus that spreads easily among the animals and can lead to breathing problems, abortions and nervous system disorders.
• Three cases of equine herpesvirus have been documented this year in North Dakota and seven cases have been confirmed in Minnesota. The North Dakota horses are recovering, but three in Minnesota have been euthanized.
• South Dakota hasn't documented any cases of EHV, but the state's Animal Industry Board earlier this month cautioned horse owners because of the cases in other states.
• The American Quarter Horse Association has documented a number of cases
