SD man sentenced to prison for child sex abuse
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities say a Fort Thompson man has been sentenced to 1 ½ years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor. • U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 23-year-old Jordan Traversie was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court. • Traversie was pleased guilty to the charge in January. • Johnson says the conviction stems from a 2012 incident in which Traversie knowingly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim under the age of 16. • This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. •
2 SD men plead not guilty to sex trafficking
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities say two Sioux Falls men have pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking charges involving a child. • U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 21-year-old James Murphy and 24-year-old Elijah Wilson were indicted on the federal charges Tuesday and entered pleas on Wednesday. • Authorities say the men allegedly attempted to "recruit, entice and obtain a person who had not attained the age of 14 years, and knowing that the person would be caused to engage in a commercial sex act." • Both men face a June 17 trial. They face up to life in prison if found guilty. • Murphy was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. Wilson was released on bond pending trial. •
Found gun believed to be related to SD shooting
• BOX ELDER, S.D. (AP) -- The Pennington County Sheriff's Office says a firearm found by a Box Elder resident may be related to a shooting incident at a mobile home park in the city last month. • A statement from the sheriff's office on Friday thanked the public for helping locate the gun that's believed to have been used in the March 25 shooting. • The sheriff's office says 36-year-old Shawn Mousseau and his 35-year-old wife, Michaela, became involved in a confrontation with a guest at their home last month, and Shawn Mousseau allegedly fired several shots at 57-year-old Leonard Maralez.
