Lakota Omniciye Wacipi begins at BHSU

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- One of the largest Native American pow wows in the Black Hills kicks off Friday night on the campus of Black Hills State University.
• The 31st annual Lakota Omniciye Wacipi is dedicated to educating the community about Indian culture. It's part of American Indian Awareness Week, which features daily speakers and a variety of events at the Rapid City school.
• This pow wow runs through Sunday at the Young Center Field House.

Police in western SD find skimmers at gas pumps

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities in western South Dakota are investigating a series of credit card skimmers found inside gas pumps.
• Skimmers are small devices placed on the pumps that can steal credit card information when consumers swipe a debit or credit card.
• The Rapid City Police Department says the skimmers were discovered at gas stations in and around the city.
• Police say there skimmers found in the area were placed inside the pumps where they were not visible to consumers. Authorities are working with gas stations to try to locate and remove any additional skimmers.
• Police say no consumers have reported being victims of the scam. Authorities recommend that people monitor their bank accounts for any signs of fraudulent activity.

Report: More children in SD have insurance

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The percentage of children in South Dakota without health insurance more than halved between 2008 and 2012, according to a national report released Thursday.
• The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report shows the segment of uninsured children fell from 9.2 percent to 4.2 percent during that period. The 2012 percentage translates to one in 24 children still lacking health care coverage. The study is based on the most recent data available from the American Community Survey conducted annually by the U.S. Census Bureau.
