• "These programs will provide long-awaited disaster relief for many livestock producers who have endured significant financial hardship from weather-related disasters while the programs were expired and awaiting congressional action," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a statement Tuesday. "President Obama and I prioritized the implementation of these disaster assistance programs now that the Farm Bill has restored and strengthened them."

South Dakota Attorney General Jackley to run again

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says he will seek re-election this year.
• Jackley has served as attorney general since September 2009, when then-Gov. Mike Rounds tabbed him to fill a vacancy created when Larry Long was appointed a circuit judge. The Republican then defeated Democrat Ron Volesky in the November 2010 election to win a four-year term.
• Before he became the state's top lawyer, Jackley was South Dakota's U.S. attorney for three years.
• No Democrats have announced they will run. State Democratic Party Executive Director Zach Crago says he knows of several Democrats who see an opportunity. He expects them to announce before June.

Initiative aimed at wooing workers to western ND

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Job fairs are being held in 12 cities in the Dakotas to woo workers to construction jobs in the western North Dakota oil patch.
• The events are part of an initiative launched by Dakota Construction Careers. The coalition of six labor unions has launched a campaign to recruit both construction workers and people wanting to learn building trades.
• "Right now we are running out of people for jobs," Brian Aske, apprenticeship coordinator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49. "We are interested in recruiting and training either new people that want to start a career or people that might have some experience."
• The first job fairs were in Williston and Minot in North Dakota in late March. Events are planned this month and next in the North Dakota cities of Dickinson, Bismarck, Fargo, Jamestown, Grand Forks and Devils Lake, and the South Dakota cities of Pierre, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
