January Students of the Month

• The Groton Area Student Council sponsors the Students of the Month. Each month, the faculty selects seven students who show outstanding academic achievement. These students receive certificates and have a spring lunch with the principal.
• The January Students of the Month are sixth grader Kayla Jensen, seventh grader Alexis Simon, eighth grader Emilee Crosby, freshman Patrick Gengerke, sophomore Lily Cutler, junior Haley Unzen and senior Alec Oleson.

Kayla Jensen, daughter of Lynn and Robin Jensen, Claremont, is a sixth grader. She has one sister, Abby, age 8.
• Kayla was in her fourth year in DestiNation Imagination and fourth year in the YMCA volleyball program. She also plays the flute in band.
• Her team went ot the state DI tourney in Pierre after placing second in the regions last year. She was named to the honor roll and earned third place for her D.A.R.E. essay in the fifth grade.

• Kayla is interested in cupcakes, all things DI, Aberdeen Wings Hockey, rainbow loom bracelets, hunting and cats. Her favorite subjects are art and band and she would like to be an art or a music teacher. Her role models are her parents and her awesome Aunt Karen.
