ND regulators to host pipeline safety training

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The North Dakota Public Service Commission is holding pipeline safety meetings to update operators on the latest state and federal regulations.
• The meetings are slated Wednesday and Thursday in Bismarck.
• Officials say more than 130 pipeline operators from the Dakotas and neighboring states will be attending.
• The PSC says registration has been closed "due to the great turnout and interest in the event."


Lower Brule group opposing pipeline plans meeting

• LOWER BRULE, S.D. (AP) -- A Lower Brule group opposing the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline is holding an informational meeting on Sunday morning.
• The Descendents of Treaty Signers Protecting the Future project was formed by a group of Lakota people living on the reservation. Its goal is to unite all races of people to pray for protection against the harm if the pipeline is allowed to cross South Dakota.
• The group says it has with joined other members of Great Sioux Nation, as well as farmers and ranchers who also oppose the construction.
• The group also plans to ask that the Lower Brule Tribal administration rescind the permission granted to TransCanada to build a power line across reservation boundaries.
• The meeting at the Lower Brule Community Center starts at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday marks new SD holiday for Vietnam veterans

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota will observe "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" for the first time this weekend.
• The 2013 Legislature established three working holidays in honor of veterans. March 30 is designated to honor those who served in Vietnam.
• Counties across the state will host events. The Spink County Veterans Service Office south of Aberdeen will host a supper with music and a speaker.
• There will be events in Rapid City and Sioux Falls as well. Those interested in observing the holiday should contact their local Veterans Service Office.
