SF Washington claims 3rd at state AA

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls Washington beat Rapid City Stevens 56-43 in the third-place game at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament Saturday.
• The Warriors (15-12) took a 33-16 lead at halftime. They cooled off in the second half, but the lead they built stood up to a challenge late in the game.
• Stevens (20-5) could not generate enough offense to make a run. The Raiders shot 24 percent from the field.
• Brett Stanley had 17 points and Deng Geu 12 for Washington. Geu and Austin Heins had 11 rebounds each.
• Steven Schaefer led Stevens with 14 points.

Huron defeats Yankton 61-56 for 5th at state AA

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Huron made six free throws in the last minute to hold off Yankton 61-56 Saturday for fifth place at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament.
• The Tigers (23-2) made 17 of 20 shots from the line. Justin Decker had four free throws down the stretch and finished with 24 points. He was 8-for-16 from the field with six rebounds.
• Lucas Morrison had 13 points and Will Carr 10.
• Brady Hale led Yankton (14-11) with 15 points. JJ Hejna had 14 points, including a basket with 25 seconds left that made it a 57-56 game.
• JP Noonan and Decker scored the game's last four points from the line.

Pierre 7th at state AA

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Pierre pulled away from a 59-all tie to beat Sturgis 77-73 Saturday in the seventh-place game at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament.
• Pierre (20-6) made 22 field goals and 26 of 45 free throw attempts. The Governors got 40 points off the bench to just seven for Sturgis (14-12).
• Brevin Kaiser made 11 of 18 free throws and finished with 17 points. Austin Christopherson added 12 points and Travis Barton 10.
