SD Capitol crews resume stained glass restoration

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Capitol is now void of lawmakers, and state officials have gone back to work restoring the building's stained-glass skylights.
• Legislators wrapped up the bulk of their work on Friday. And the grand marble staircase in the state House is blocked off with a deck built across it.
• Crews will catalog and remove the glass panels from the barrel vault above the stairs. The panels arch up with a corn motif along the bottom edge.
• They'll be removed on Wednesday and sent to Wisconsin for repairs. Glass from the rotunda dome was removed last August.
• Crews will tackle windows in the House and Senate Chambers in April.
• Plans call for the stained glass to be reinstalled by Oct. 1, in time for South Dakota's 125th anniversary in November.
