Senator Welke's Legislative Column

• We are at the end of the 2014 Legislative Session and things are happening at a fast and furious pace.  It is disappointing to see how things sometimes work at this point in the session as bills get pushed ahead with some arm twisting and deal making behind closed doors.  A number of good bills die and some pet projects of certain legislators go forward.  Another practice is the art of hog housing bills and packing them with several unrelated topics.  In many of these cases the bills have had hearings and have been killed and in other cases unrelated new ideas come through without having the hearing that they should have.  Last year we saw this happen as the majority party put $500,000 into the appropriations bill for leg
