• Rep. Brock Greenfield, while happy with the result, was not optimistic when the debate began.

SD governor signs new policy on shared custody

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed into law a measure designed to give children more time with divorced parents.

• The policy does not establish a presumption of equal parenting, and judges will still have the final say in assigning custody.

• The original House version chronicled the ways the state complied with implementing health reform. A Senate committee stripped out many of those details.
• Members of the committee that met Wednesday said it was a waste of time to negotiate on a resolution, because it has no force of law. The proposal's main sponsor said Wednesday that resolutions are important because they declare the will of the Legislature.
