Sturgis rallies to win at state AA

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Sturgis rode a 17-4 third quarter to a 39-33 win over Spearfish in a first-round game Thursday at the South Dakota Class AA girls basketball tournament.
• The Scoopers (18-5) trailed 14-9 after two quarters but took the lead for good in the third quarter.
• Lynsey Prosser had 16 points and eight rebounds and Kahlie Peterson had eight points and 14 rebounds for Sturgis, which has been runner-up three times at the state but never won it.
• Kaitlyn Hinch led Spearfish (16-6) with nine points and 11 rebounds.
• The Spartans shot just 20 percent from the field and 26 percent from three-point range.

Defending champ Warner wins in state B

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- Defending champion Warner got double-doubles from two players and 23 points from Ashley Rozell to beat Lemmon 59-35 Thursday at the South Dakota Class B girls basketball tournament.
• Mirand Ristau had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Carly Rozell added 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Monarchs (22-2) spoiled Lemmon's (22-2) first trip to state since 1999.
• Warner shot 56 percent from the field and outboarded Lemmon 43-16.
• Bailie Beer led the way for the Cowboys with 17 points. She was 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Jenna Van Beek had 14 points, but she was just 3-for-11 from 3-point range.
• Warner had a 20-2 advantage in scoring inside and 17-0 in second-chance points.
