South Dakota lawmakers estimate state revenue

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Legislature's budget-writing committee is working to put the final touches on next year's state budget.
• State economists are making projections of how much tax revenue the state will collect in the next year. The Joint Appropriations Committee will use those estimates to decide how much money the state can spend in the budget year that begins July 1.
• Senate Appropriations Chair Deb Peters, R-Harford, says the committee will finish its work on the spending plan later this week so the Legislature can pass the approximately $4.3 billion budget by Friday, the final day of the session's main run.
• Legislative leaders say they expect to approve Gov. Dennis Daugaard's proposal for 3 percent increases in state aid to schools, reimbursements to Medicaid service providers and state employee salaries.

State agency hosting water quality conference

• FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The state Department of Environment and Natural Resources is hosting a ground water quality conference in Fort Pierre next week.
• The 26th Annual South Dakota Environmental and Ground Water Quality Conference on March 19-20 at the AmericInn Teton Island Conference Center will feature exhibits and technical presentations on the environment, ground water, geology, mining and mineral resources.
• The conference is free and open to the public.
• Department Secretary Steve Pirner says attendees can learn about situ uranium mining, cleanups of oil spills in North Dakota, former manufactured gas plants, the Big Sioux River water quality master plan or agricultural tile discharges.

S. Dakota St. makes semis; 71-50 over W. Illinois

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Brayden Carlson scored 13 points as No. 3 seed South Dakota State beat sixth-seeded Western Illinois 71-50 on Sunday in the Summit League quarterfinals.
• Jordan Dykstra added 12 points and 10 rebounds for South Dakota State (19-11). Chad White and Marcus Heemstra had 10 apiece.
