• Customers will also be eligible for a $200 rebate for purchasing an Energy Star qualified central air conditioner or air-source heat pump and a $600 rebate for purchasing an Energy Star geothermal heat pump.
• Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. The blue Energy Star label makes it easy for consumers to identify and purchase energy efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features or comfort.
• The city of Groton is also offering commercial and industrial customers rebates for replacing existing light fixtures with more efficient models. High bay lighting incentives are available for upgrading from metal halide to high output fluorescent fixtures. Incentives are also available for replacing T12 fluorescent lighting with T8 or T5 fixtures and electronic ballasts. Replacing mercury vapor with high pressure sodium also qualifies as well as replacing incandescent or halogen lamps with Energy Star qualified LEDs. Other lighting upgrades may be considered for rebates, depending on potential energy savings.
• "Lighting accounts for a substantial portion of a business's energy consumption," said Hyland. "Replacing old fixtures typically provides significant savings along with improving light quality."
• Rebate applications as well as details of specific upgrades eligible for incentives can be obtained by contacting city hall in Groton or online at www.youcanpowerforward.com.  Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis as funding is limited.
• Heartland Consumers Power District is a non-profit, public power utility providing wholesale power as well as energy services and community development programs to municipalities and other institutions in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
