Sisseton edges Groton in region semifinal game

• Reilly Ell sank a three-pointer to tie the region semifinal game at 42 with less than a minute left in the game. Then a controversial call with 3.2 seconds left resulted in a foul on Groton and Jordan Cornelius making two free throws to put Sisseton back on top, 44-42.  The inbound pass was stolen by Sisseton and the Redmen will advance to the region champion game against Aberdeen Roncalli on Tuesday.
• Ell led the Tigers and all scorers with 20 points followed by Wyatt Lone with nine, Mason Madsen eight, Lucas Sternhagen had three and Spencer Knecht added two points.
• The Redmen were led by Cornelius with 14 points followed by Wyatt Youngblom with 12, Dominic White had eight, Brayden Tasa six and Ethan Kranhold added four points.
• Groton made 44 percent of its field goals while Sisseton made 51 percent. The Tigers were five of 10 from the line off of Sisseton's 10 team fouls and the Redmen were eight of 11 off of Groton's 15 team fouls.
• Groton had the edge in rebounds, 20-19, with Madsen and Ell each having six for Groton and Cornelius had six for Sisseton.
• Groton had 14 turnovers, nine of which were steals. Sisseton had 12 turnovers, eight of which were steals with Madsen, Knecht and Kurtz each having two. Knecht, Kasey Kurtz and Sternhagen each had two of the team's nine assists.
• Groton finishes the season with a 17-6 record.
