• Stockwater supplies in South Dakota are rated 89 percent adequate to surplus, and hay and forage supplies are 95 percent in those categories. Both are unchanged over the month.

Youth archery competition planned for Porcupine

• PORCUPINE, S.D. (AP) -- Students from across South Dakota will gather March 15 to compete in an archery tournament co-sponsored by the Shannon County School District and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department.
• The West River Regional National Archery in the Schools Program Tournament at Rockyford Elementary School in Porcupine is open to students who have participated in NASP at a school with a certified instructor
• More than 200 young archers from across the region are expected to participate. Trophies will be awarded after the competition has ended.
• Student archers are encouraged to bring their own unmodified Genesis bows.

Student height, weight survey nearly unchanged

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Health officials say the number of students in South Dakota who were obese or overweight during the 2012-2013 school year remained practically unchanged compared to the previous year.
• The South Dakota Department of Health says 16.6 percent of students attending schools that submitted data to the department were considered overweight. The percentage was the same during the 2011-2012 academic year.
• The agency says 16 percent of students were considered obese last school year, nearly unchanged from 15.9 percent the year before.
• Nearly 36 percent of all South Dakota schools submitted students' height and weight information for the report.
• Officials say estimates show that about 17 percent of children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 19 in the U.S. are obese.

SD House endorses broadening domestic abuse laws

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- After years of failure, South Dakota lawmakers appeared on track Wednesday to change the state's domestic abuse laws to cover couples who are dating but don't live together.
