• Warmer Pacific air will be moving into the region as the Arctic air moves east. Wind chills early Monday in the two states were in the minus teens and 20s, but the forecast called for lows above zero and high temperatures in the teens, 20s and 30s by midweek.
• "I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the last time we see these kinds of (cold) temperatures," Merriman said. "But March is a transition month. We should be seeing a lot warmer temperatures by the end of the month."

US Attorney: 6 indicted in tax fraud scheme

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says a federal grand jury has indicted six people for conspiracy to defraud the United States and aggravated identity theft.
• One of the indicted, 27-year-old Undra Stewart Franks of Little Rock, Ark., pleaded not guilty to the charges last month and was released pending trial. Johnson says the other five have been arrested and will make their first court appearance in Sioux Falls in early March.
• The indictment says the people conspired to defraud by using names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth stolen from others to file fraudulent income tax returns that claimed false income tax refunds.
• The investigation is being conducted by the Internal Revenue Service with assistance from the Moorhead, Minn., police department and the U.S. Secret Service.

CA man sentenced for sex trafficking in SD

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Los Angeles man who stopped in Sioux Falls to pimp two women on his way home from Minneapolis will spend more than a year in federal prison on a sex trafficking charge.
• Thirty-three-year-old Joe Becker was arrested last August after a woman flagged down a police car and said she had been held against her will in a Sioux Falls motel room.
• Becker said in court Monday that he got involved in pimping because he couldn't find work and was desperate for cash. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Clapper questioned that.
• Becker pleaded guilty to transportation for the purposes of prostitution late last year in a deal that lowered his possible prison time to anywhere between 15 and 21 months. Judge Karen Schreier on Monday sentenced him to 15 months.
