Britton-Hecla spoils Groton's NEC hunt

• It was a battle to the end, but Groton's 17 percent field goal shooting was the demise of the Lady Tigers as Britton-Hecla edged Groton, 39-36. Clark-Willow Lake defeated Roncalli to win the Northeast Conference Title this year.
• "Our girls were relaxed coming into the game," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "They were focused and had a game plan."
• Britton controlled the tip, but Groton scored first. The Lady Tigers took advantage of four turnovers to jump out to a 7-1 lead. Groton led at the end of the first quarter, 9-3. The Lady Tigers made 3 of 14 field goals for 21 percent while Britton-Hecla was 1 of 8 for 13 percent. The Braves had more first quarter turnovers, 5-4, and from the line, Groton was 2 of 2 while Britton was 1 of 2.
• The Braves switched from zone to man-to-man defense and then back to zone throughout the first half. Courtney Kurtz and Camille Sippel it back-to-back three-pointers and Carly Wheeting converted a three-point play as Groton took an 18-10 lead with 3:48 left in the second quarter. Then the Polar Vortex set in upon Groton.
