Police station not moving to school

• Moving the police department to the school may not seem like a good idea, but the discussion of how to make the schools safer will continue.
• Superintendent Joe Schwan and School Board President Dorene Nelson, along with officers Stacy Mayou and David Hunter, had a discussion with the city council Monday night.
• Schwan asked what can be done to help increase security in the schools. City Attorney Drew Johnson explained how the program works in Aberdeen between the Aberdeen Police Department and Aberdeen Central School.

• Councilman Michelle Muilenberg said, "As a mom, I applaud the city and the school for thinking out of the box and putting our children's safety first." Schwan said that he is grateful when the officers walk through the school. "They are always welcome to come," he said. Mayor Scott Hanlon said, "At least we're talking." Police Chief Stacy Mayou said, "We can do more researching and try to get more ideas. Maybe we can come up with something that will work for everyone."
