All-time girls' hoops wins leader in SD retiring

• PARKSTON, S.D. (AP) -- The winningest coach in South Dakota girls' basketball history is calling it a career.
• Sixty-one-year-old Rob Van Laecken has coached for 37 seasons at Parkston High School. He's retiring from both teaching and coaching at the end of the school year to spend more time with family, and more time hunting and fishing.
• Van Laecken's teams have won 593 games and made it to 10 state tournaments. He has coached 17 all-state players and has had 13 athletes top the 1,000-point mark. He has had only three seasons with a losing record.

18 sentenced in South Dakota wildlife case

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities say 18 people have pleaded guilty and been sentenced for wildlife violations at a commercial hunting operation in southern South Dakota's Todd County.
• The state Game, Fish and Parks Department says it's one of the largest wildlife cases in South Dakota history.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson and state Attorney General Marty Jackley say fines, restitution and civil damages in the case total more than $235,000.
• The investigation was handled by state and federal wildlife agencies and the Rosebud Sioux tribe. It determined that Rock Creek Ranch owners John and Kathryn Chauncey and several of their hunting clients from Michigan, Texas and New Jersey unlawfully killed deer, hawks, owls, badgers and turkeys.
• John Chauncey was sentenced to two months in custody and Kathryn Chauncey to probation. Sixteen others were fined.

Budget committee discusses school aid plan

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A plan to give extra state financial aid to school districts is getting a hearing from a South Dakota legislative panel that will consider whether the state can afford to spend the additional money.
• The bill would boost state aid to schools by more than Gov. Dennis Daugaard has recommended, at a cost of an additional $5.3 million in state spending.
• Daugaard has proposed a budget that would raise state aid to schools by 3 per
